Thousands of physicians, employers, and recruiters use PhysEmp to find the job or candidate they deserve. We’re making job search human again by providing a fast, convenient platform backed by unreal customer support. When physicians dream about what’s next, we’ll be there to make the job.
For over 35 years, we’ve guided physicians and employers through every step of the hiring process. Beyond algorithms, we offer real support — whether it’s posting a role, setting pricing, or finding the right opportunity. You’re never left questioning; we're here to help.
We’ve always built trust by putting people first. Physicians count on us for opportunities that fit their goals, while employers depend on us for high-quality, active candidates. Behind the scenes, we do the hard work to keep every search simple, reliable, and worth your time.
Our nationwide network of healthcare groups and recruiting agencies has been carefully cultivated over decades. That experience has helped thousands of physicians connect with jobs they love — in the communities where they want to live and work.
PhysEmp AI learns what matters most to you — specialty, location, lifestyle, compensation, you name it — and delivers job matches that fit. Save time scrolling, and get straight to aligned opportunities.
After circling the globe at age 40 and asking life’s big questions, our founder returned to Iowa with clarity: physicians needed a faster way to find jobs than waiting for quarterly print journals. At the time, if you wanted to advertise an opening, you had to pay for space in a specialty magazine—and hope the right candidate stumbled across it months later. That just wasn’t good enough. And so, Physician’s Employment was born, a print publication dedicated solely to connecting physicians with opportunities.
The world of publishing was shifting fast. Digital production lowered typesetting costs, but postage prices skyrocketed and devoured every savings. Despite producing a polished magazine, profitability never materialized. The writing was on the wall: physician recruitment was not going to live in print forever. Something new was needed.

Sometimes big shifts start with small moments. While waiting in line at Subway, our founder struck up a conversation with a woman who casually mentioned she had just recruited a physician through the internet. The response? A confused, “What’s the internet?” That chance encounter sparked the idea that would change our path forever.
With help from a local friend starting an internet service company, we launched one of the very first online job boards for physicians. We took every listing from the print magazine and uploaded it. Within three days, the site generated more candidate responses than three months of print ever had. The future was suddenly clear, and we were all in.

Back when Yahoo’s directory was king, we managed to land our site under “Healthcare → Employment.” With virtually no competition, we ranked in the top results and were swamped with traffic. It was the gold rush era of the internet, and we were right at the front of the line.
The contrast was stunning. Our print magazine had been lucky to receive 125–150 postcards per issue, if we were lucky! But the website? It was drawing 200–300 inquiries every single day. And at a fraction of the cost. From a little town in Iowa, we were suddenly facilitating physician job matches nationwide.

Then came Google. Search transformed overnight. What had been a wide-open highway of free traffic became a crowded marketplace. We went from ranking easily on Yahoo to competing for space on Google’s first page. The search game had changed, and we had to adapt fast.
Early search engine optimization was a mess—sites stuffed keywords onto pages until they were unreadable. It was the Wild West, with everyone scrambling to stay visible. Through it all, we kept our focus: building a platform that actually worked for physicians and recruiters, even as the internet reshaped itself daily.

The new millennium brought mainstream adoption of the internet. Suddenly, every hospital and healthcare system wanted to be online. We grew from being a pioneering niche player to a trusted national job board. While others were still testing the waters, we had years of head start.
As smartphones became part of daily life, physicians wanted job access in their pockets—between patient rounds, residency shifts, or even during lunch breaks. We dove in full-force and built a dedicated PhysEmp mobile app, one of the first of its kind in the healthcare recruiting space. For years, we actively developed and supported it until mobile-responsive websites became the industry standard. Once again, we moved early so physicians could stay ahead.

Even as the economy plunged into recession, healthcare remained one of the few industries still adding jobs—gaining hundreds of thousands nationwide as hospitals, physician offices, and homecare services continued growing. That said, not every provider fared the same—some hospitals, particularly in hard-hit areas, had layoffs, hiring freezes, or service cuts. Through it all, PhysEmp stayed independent, lean, and committed to connecting physicians and employers—not just surviving the storm, but helping keep the momentum going.
The early 2010s were a turning point—not just for the internet, but for us. Instead of sitting back on our “pioneer” status, we doubled down. We gave PhysEmp a complete makeover: fresh branding, a fully renovated platform, and an expanded team dedicated to pushing things forward. But we didn’t just guess what physicians and employers wanted—we went out and asked. Through extensive market research, we listened carefully to both sides of the hiring table. The result? Smarter tools, cleaner design, and a platform that worked the way our users actually needed it to. While many job boards were still catching up with the basics, we were busy building the future.

Some of our competitors were swallowed up by large recruitment agencies – creating inevitable conflicts of interest – or by investment firms with sprawling website portfolios – where individual job boards often became just another line item, receiving less focus and declining in quality. Who do they really serve – the advertiser, or their parent company? We chose a different path. We stayed independent, so our loyalty remained right where it started: with physicians and recruiters who trust us.
The pandemic upended everything. Recruiters became hard to reach by phone, physicians reevaluated their careers, and relocation spiked. Our traffic surged as thousands turned to PhysEmp to navigate career transitions during one of the most uncertain moments in modern history.

Even as interest rates locked many people into their homes, the demand for physicians only grew. An aging population and increasing healthcare needs strained the system—and made recruitment more critical than ever.
As the internet shifts toward AI-driven “zero-click” search results — what some call the “great decoupling” of impressions from clicks — we embraced the change head-on. PhysEmp AI now helps recruiters craft stronger job ads, supports physicians in finding roles that truly fit their goals, and provides round-the-clock guidance on our site. Once again, we’re not waiting for the future to arrive — we’re building it.
